The Blue Slipper: a new Web site, and a new production of “The Fantasticks” (9/12 to 10/4)

September 10, 2008

When the folks at The Blue Slipper Theatre here in Livingston confirmed that they’d be staging “The Fantasticks” this fall I went a little crazy. The mix of memory and madness that I experienced was perfect for this magical musical, the longest running musical in the world (42 years). I’d had some casual discussions about a Web site re-design for the theatre with a couple of the Park County Theatre Guild Board members. When I heard about “The Fantasticks,” I came home and re-designed the site in a single weekend.

The play is a sentimental favorite for me. I saw it for the first time as a high school student over 40 years ago and in an instant I became a fan of theater, and especially small theater. I saw every performance of “The Fantasticks” that I could during that run. I love the staging, the characters, the  smart plot, concepts, and language, and the music which is a knockout from start to finish, with familiar songs like “Try to Remember,” “Soon It’s Gonna to Rain,” “I Can See It,” “Much More,” and “They Were You.” If you want to know more about the production at The Blue Slipper Theatre and my love affair with “The Fantasticks,” check out the article on ArtsMontana.com.

Now, about that new Web site. BlueSlipper.com has a whole new look and has been brought up to date. It’s a great resource for finding out what is going on in one of our community theaters (the other is the excellent Firehouse 5), and for seeing a Gallery of those great Scott Black posters from previous productions as well as photos from plays, then and now.

In a line that’ll sound like something out of a men’s hair club ad, I want to say that Sparkling Dawg Design is not just a proud sponsor of “The Fantasticks” but a member of the audience at The Blue Slipper Theatre. I hope you’ll join me.
