Shamelessly promoting the arts: Holiday shopping tips

December 6, 2007

I get to see a lot of art because many of my Web clients are artsists, and I regularly check in on local galleries. Lots of Livingston artists have affordable items, especially this time of year. A small painting, a print, a handmade ornament, photographs, and the like will provide enduring appreciation and will outlast the joy of a new gizmo from WalMart. Besides, you’ll have the very good feeling of keeping Livingston’s local economy thriving.

Visit The Danforth Gallery or the Livingston Center for Arts and Culture (LCAC) to see a variety of choices from artistic ornaments and cards to paintings, posters, and prints. Traci Isaly has made some wonderful miniature versions of her popular Talisman Dolls. Brad Bunkers has remarkably affordable paintings and delightful cards of images from his 10,000 Goats series. You’ll find Traci and Brad’s work at The Danforth, as well as Dana Aberg prints, Tom Murphy photographs, Suzanne Schneider ceramics, and a stunning selection of jewelry. The LCAC also has a great selection of everything from ornaments to local fine art and jewelry just for the season. Don’t forget The Drawing Room (117 E. Callender) or b. civilized (Park Street acrosas from The Beanery) for artful gifts and art work.

At ArtsMontana.com, you’ll find links to local artists, and many of them sell prints and smaller paintings. And on Friday evening, December 7, Livingston will be alive with choices during the annual Holiday Stroll. Shops and galleries will be open for a Holiday Art Walk from 4 to 8 PM.

A number of artists in town are my clients, and I have purchased (or traded services for) their work. So I can testify to the variety of affordable choices you’ll find among their works.
